Chapter 9 Issues and Problem Resolution
Problem: During conversion from Windows 2000 basic to dynamic disk, a
multi-boot partition will no longer be able to boot any NOS other than Windows
2000.
Background: A multi-boot partition is no longer able to boot to any NOS other
than Windows 2000 because the Windows 2000 dynamic disk is a super-set file
system.
Case 3:
Problem: If you use Windows 2000 Disk Manager to create a basic disk and
then convert it to dynamic disk, during the conversion, the volume is temporarily
dismounted and files are unavailable.
Background: No action required. The NOS recovers, and there is no known
problem with losing data.
Case 4:
Problem: If you have a Windows 2000 basic disk and want to add a disk drive
to increase the free space, the additional free space might take five or more
minutes to show up.
Background: Wait until the additional free space shows up (five minutes or
more). The other option is to reboot.
Case 5:
Problem: If you have a Windows 2000 dynamic disk, and want to add a disk
drive to increase the free space, the additional free space does not show up until
there is a reboot.
Background: Reboot the server.
Case 6:
Problem: If you have FAST create a Windows 2000 basic disk (NetRAID-3Si
does not allow this), and no data is written, and then Windows 2000 Disk
Manager immediately converts basic disk to dynamic, sometimes the file system
(drive letter) is gone. It might be possible to reassign the drive letter and access
the data, but likely you would not consider this. Apparently, when NetRAID-4M
Windows 2000 FAST creates a Windows 2000 basic disk, it does not reserve 8
MB of disk space necessary to enable future conversion to dynamic.
Workaround: This capability has been removed from the NetRAID-4M
Windows 2000 tool. Use Microsoft Windows 2000 Disk Manager for creation
of the basic disks.
