arrays) get created, using one of the NSS Providers (Update Provider Information
option), we can retrieve the newly created containers and show them as free space.
If any of the new containers changes in size or gets deleted, the NSS Update Provider
Information option does not reflect these changes, and neither does “List Devices”
or “Scan devices for new hardware” options. The traditional NetWare file system
(NWFS) performs as expected and it is not affected by the current NSS design.
Example: Using either CLI (command line interface) on the NetWare server or
using the FAST GUI on a Windows based client, first delete an NSS container, then
attempt to recreate a bigger container (for example, 1 GB to 2 GB). NetWare will
see the increase in disk space, but only after either reloading NSS services or
rebooting. The workaround is to update to the latest support pack, then reload NSS
services.
Workaround: The only way to get the current, updated configuration is to unload
NSS services (NSS exit) and load it again (NSS). The entire process takes about 15
seconds depending on the configuration.
62 NetWare splitting mirrors
Problem: One of the features of the NetRAID-4M controller is the “Split Mirror”
function. Due to Operating System limitations this capability is not functioning
properly. When the container is created on the disk, it assigns a disk stamp. In RAID
1 the disks are mirrored and the same stamp is on both disks/partitions. When they
are split, there are now two disks/partitions with identical stamps, between which the
operating system cannot distinguish. Thus the disk stamp has to be unique.
The likelihood of this problem occurring is rare. The split command has very limited
applicability. The only scenario where this command could be used is duplicating a
system configuration. It would require the operating system to be installed on the
mirror that is going to be split. Once the command completes, one half of the mirror
would have to be removed immediately. On the new system, a new network address,
a new license, and a new server name need to be provided in order for the system to
coexist with the first one.
Workaround: Currently there is no workaround. For the latest updates on this and
other issues, see the Release Notes on HP's web site at:
