HP NetServer AA server. A fault tolerant,
disaster tolerant server that consists of systems
configured with fault tolerant technology.
HP NetServer AA System Interconnect.
See. ESI.
ESI. Endurance System Interconnect. The
collection of all path components in a CE to IOP
interconnect, including all MICs and MIC cables.
failout. See constant computing.
failure. An observable malfunction of a server
component.
fault management. The process of detecting a
failure, diagnosing it, and continuing to process,
using either a failout or failover process. In
addition, this may include repairing one or more
component(s) and returning them to service in the
active server configuration.
faulted. A state that indicates a component has
failed and has been removed from the active server
configuration. This state indicates one or more
failures were attributed to the component. A
component remains faulted until it is manually
repaired and enabled, using an Endurance
Manager or MTCCONS command.
field replaceable unit. See FRU.
FPGA. Field Programmable Gate Array. Each
MIC uses FPGA code that can be updated using
the MTCFLASH Utility.
FRU. Field Replaceable Unit. A server hardware
component that can be replaced onsite.
I/O Processor. See IOP.
IL. IOP Link. A private, dedicated Ethernet path
between the IOPs. This path is the data path for
mirror copies and inter-IOP communication.
input devices. The keyboard and pointer for
your server.
interconnect. The physical cable that connects
an IOP to a CE or an IOP to the other IOP.
IOP. I/O Processor. The systems in a server that
provide I/O resources, including I/O processing,
data storage, and network connectivity.
IOP link. See IL.
lock step. A mode in which two CEs
simultaneously execute the same copy of the
Windows NT operating system and any Windows
NT applications.
logical disk. A logical device that is composed
of one or more physical disks. For example: A
logical mirror set identified by the name “Disk0”
is composed of two physical disks: one residing on
IOP1 and the other residing on IOP2.
Marathon Interface Card. See MIC.
MIC. Marathon Interface Card. A PCI-based
adapter that enables bidirectional communication
between systems in a server.
