AllSPOFlesssystemsuseredundantHPFibreChannelarraycontrollers.Whenapairofthese
FCarraycontrollersareinstalledintoanRS/12FCstoragecabinet,theyoperateontwo
redundantFibreChannelloops.TheredundantFCloopsallowafailovertooccuratthestorage
levelintheeventofacontrollerfailure.Afterfailover,theremainingcontrollersupportsbothFC
loopsatareducedperformancecapacity.Additionally,thecontrollersarehotpluggable,andwill
failbackafterafailedcontrollerisreplaced.
Forthedirectconnectsolution,FibreChannelhubsarenotrequired,howeverredundancycan
beaddedontheFCstoragesidebyusingtwoFibreChannelhubs.TheFChubthatNSD
supportsistheD6976AsixportFibreChannelarbitratedloophub.Thishubsupportstheuseof
eithercopperoropticalfiberlinksthroughtheuseofrespectiveGigabitInterfaceConverters
(GBICs).
TwodifferenttypesofGBICsareusedinthetestedSPOFlesssolutions.Thefirstisanoptical
GBIC,andthesecondisacopperGBIC.ApairoftheappropriatetypeofGBICisincludedwhen
eithertypeofFibreChannelcableisordered.
Forthedirectconnectsolution,GBICSwithacopperinterfacearerequiredbecausethe
RS/12FCcontrollersonlyacceptcopperconnections.However,ifFChubsareused,optical
GBICsmaybeinstalledforthesegmentsbetweentheserversandthehubstoachievelonger
distancesbetweenclustercomponents.
TwooperatingsystemsaresupportedfortheHPNetServerSPOFlesssolution:WindowsNT4.0
EnterpriseEditionwithServicePack6a,andWindows2000AdvancedServer.Wheninstallingon
theWindowsNT4.0platform,t
MicrosoftClusterServerisincludedwitheachcopyofWindowsNTEnterpriseEdition,andwith
Windows2000AdvancedServer.
