WhenconfiguringanRS/12FCforaSPOFlesscluster,theLUNsmustalwaysbesetina
configurationsimilartotheoneshownonthepreviouspage.
MiicrosoftclustershaveaspecialresourceknownastheQuorumresource,whichisalwaysa
PhysicalDisktypeinMSCS.Quorumresourcesareownedbyonlyonenodeatatimeand
provideameansofcommunicationbetweenclusternodesduringclusteroperation.Ifthe
quorumdrivehasbecomecorruptedorunavailabletheclustercannotcontinuetooperate.
Thefollowingrequirementsapplytotheuseofaquorumdrive:
Aclustercanhaveonlyonequorumdrive.
Thequorumdrivemustbeonasharedbustowhichallclusternodesaredirectly
connected.Thismeansthatthesystembootdrivescannotbeusedasaquorumdrive.
Softwaremirroringcannotbeusedforthesharedstorageinaclusterenvironment,soitis
highlyrecommendedthataquorumdiskbeonahardwareRAID1or5volume.
ClustersbuiltusingaSPOFconfigurationcanbeupgradedtoaSPOFlessconfiguration.
UpgradingtheclusterfromSPOFtoSPOFlessisaveryriskyoperation,socaremustbetakento
backuptheclusterbeforeattemptingtheupgradetoSPOFless.Thefollowingstepsweretested
usingNT4.0.
Backupthecluster.
UpgradetheSPOFversionofFCArrayAssistanttotheSPOFlessversion,A.00.02-5.
UpgradetheSPOFversionoftheFCArraycontrollerfirmwaretotheSPOFlessversion,
5.46-04.
Stopanyapplicationsthatarerunningonthecluster.
Shutdownthesecondclusternode.
OpentheServiceControlManagerfoundinthecontrolpanel,andstoptheclusterservice.
Also,changetheStartupTypefortheservicefromautomatictodisabled.
Shutdownthefirstclusternode.
ShutdowntheRS/12FC.
InstalltheadditionalFChub,andchangethecablingbetweenthehubsandtheRS/12FCto
matchtheschematicfortheSPOFlessconfiguration.
StarttheRS/12FCandwaitforbothofthearraycardstatuslightstoglowgreen.
Startthefirstclusternode.
OpenFCArrayAssistantonthefirstnodeandrenumbertheLUNs.
Restartthefirstclusternode.
OpentheSCM,changetheStartupTypefromdisabledtoautomatic,andstartthecluster
service.
OpentheClusterAdministratortoverifythattheclusterisoperatingnormallyonthefirst
node.Also,verifythatallofthedrivesaredetected..
Startthesecondclusternode.Afterthesecondnodestarts,theclusterwillbeoperating
normally.
