Memory
Make sure you have the recommended amount of RAM installed in the NetServer. HP
recommends at least 16 MB of RAM in server environments. In general, the larger the
RAM, the better the server performance. (See the installation guide that accompanied
your software or ask your system administrator for more information.)
Network Interface Cards (NICs)
Because of elaborate file caching schemes used by network operating systems, network
I/O (Input/Output) often becomes the performance bottleneck. To avoid this situation,
you should always use high performance NICs in your NetServer.
HP Bundled NICs Not Supported On VINES
The Network Interface Cards (NICs) that are bundled in some HP NetServer models do
not have drivers for Banyan VINES. Consult Banyan's hardware compatability guide for
a supported NIC.
Section 2. Installation Guide
Booting from the Embedded SCSI Controller
The system boots from the drive with the lowest SCSI address. If you place the boot
drive in another slot, your system may not boot when additional SCSI drives are installed.
Video BIOS Shadowing
On systems that allow video BIOS shadowing , the video BIOS must be shadowed at
C000. (The default is E000.) If the video BIOS is left at E000, the system will hang
upon loading the boot floppy during installation.
Setting Advanced Features
If the system has 16 MB or more of memory, some hidden advanced features must be set
to the correct values.
To set the correct values:

features to the correct values. To set the correct values, run the EISA Configuration
Utility (ECU) in manual mode. At the copyright screen, press Ctrl-A to access the
advanced features.
You can run the ECU in manual mode in any of the following ways:
A. If you selected Express Setup in the Configuration Assistant on the HP
NetServer Navigator CD-ROM, select Install ISA Cards.
