Introduction

This document was created by Hewlett-Packard for the purpose of helping you install

SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional on your HP NetServer, based on procedures tested by HP.

The objective of this document is to provide the information needed to achieve the

following tasks.

· Install SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional from CD-ROM.

· Configure network settings.

Features

SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional includes the 2.4.4 Linux kernel, XFree86 4.0.3, KDE 2.1.2,

and a number of applications such as Samba 2.2, and StarOffice 5.2. SuSE 7.2 supports

up to 64GB of RAM, and has extensive multimedia support.

Requirements

Disk Space: A full installation of SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional requires around 6 GB.

Hardware settings

: You will need to know the following information to complete the

installation:

· The monitor's resolution, color depth, and refresh rate.

· The display (graphics) adapter manufacturer and model number.

· The Ethernet card manufacturer, model number, IRQ, and I/O address.

(http://www.hp.com) Installing SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional 1. Power on the server, and insert the SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional Install CD #1 in the CD tray to start the installation. 2.

B. Select /dev/sda then click OK. C. Select primary partition then click OK. D. Set the parameters as follows: Start: 1 lFormat End:+20M Mount point: /boot lData with Ext2 Then click OK. 9. 12. At the System Boot Configuration screen, select Custom LILO configuration. The option Write LILO to the boot disk should be set. Also check the use the linear option box. Click Next. 13. At the Personalize screen, enter all the required information to create an account on the system. Click Next. 14. Set the password for the super user (root). Click Next. 15. Review the installation summary. Click Back if you need to make any changes to it, otherwise click Next to begin the install.
