Audience Assumptions

This road map is intended for the person who installs, administers,

and troubleshoots LAN servers. Hewlett-Packard Company assumes

that you are qualified in the servicing of computer equipment and

trained in recognizing hazards in products with hazardous energy

levels.

ESD Warning

Tools Required

This HP NetServer contains sensitive electronic devices that can be

damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD hazards are a result

of installation or service personnel failing to ground themselves

properly. To be properly grounded, use a proper ESD wrist strap and

work surface grounded to the HP NetServer chassis.

Installation of some accessories require a T25 TORX and T15 TORX

or a 1/4-inch flat blade screwdriver, depending on the accessory.

5 Preparation 1. Boot the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM: Turn on the monitor. Press the power-on button on the HP NetServer, and press the eject button on the CD-ROM drive. Place the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM in the drive, and close the drive. Press the Reset button. If the system fails to restart, follow the instructions on the screen. When HP Navigator starts, you can set the time and date, and change the display language. 2.

8 Install Additional Memory 4. Install DIMMs. NOTE Use only HP DIMMs listed in HP Information Assistant or in HP Order Assistant. 1. Remove cover 2. Remove the cover as described in panel 6, "Removing and Replacing the Covers." Align the notches on the DIMM with the keys on the Memory board socket. Holding the DIMM at 90 degrees to the system board, press the DIMM fully into the socket until the retaining clips close. If the clips do not close, the DIMM is not inserted correctly. 2.

9 Install Additional Mass Storage Devices This HP NetServer supports both hot-swap SCSI devices, installed in the hot-swap mass storage cage, and non-hot swap SCSI devices, installed in shelves 3 and 4 (located below the CD-ROM drive). Pin Engages Hole in Edge of Cage Use only Ultra2 (LVD), SCA-2 connector hot-swap devices in the hot-swap mass storage cage.

10 Replace Covers and Cables 11 Verify Installed Accessories (Optional) 1. Replace all covers as described in panel 6: "Removing and Replacing the Covers." CAUTION 2. Connect the AC power cord and all other cables. If you wish, you may now verify accessories you have installed. Turn on power to the HP NetServer and the monitor, and observe the boot screen. NOTE The boot screen lists the hardware, as it is detected, such as CPU, memory, and accessory boards.
