Preparing to Replace a 45xx Disk Drive
Preparing to Replace a Nonmirrored 45xx Disk Drive
If a disk 45xx drive is no longer usable and it has no mirror disk, data written to the disk
since the last backup is lost.
1. Stop any application software that is using the 45xx disk drive to be removed.
If you can, make a backup copy of all the files on that disk.
2. Use the SCF STOPOPENS command to prevent users from opening files on that
disk. You must be logged on as a member of the super group (255,n). For example:
-> STOPOPENS $SPOOL
3. Shut down any system software that is using the disk drive, and then shut down all
paths to the disk drive.
a. Use the File Utility Program (FUP) LISTOPENS command to determine
whether all the files are closed. For example:
1> FUP LISTOPENS $SPOOL.*.*
b. Use SCF to shut down all paths to the disk. For example:
-> STOP $SPOOL
c. Verify that the disk drive is down and then exit SCF.
-> STATUS $SPOOL
-> EXIT
4. You are now ready to remove the disk drive from its slot. See Removing a 45xx
Disk Drive on page 4-4.
Preparing to Replace a Mirrored 45xx Disk Drive
Preparing to remove one disk drive of a mirrored volume is simple; there is no need to
shut down any software.
1. It is not necessary to shut down application software or system software that is using
the disk drive; applications continue to use the other disk drive of the mirrored
volume.
2. Stop the disk drive that you want to replace. For example:
-> STOP $DATA00-M
-> STOP $DATA00-MB
3. Use the SCF STATUS command to verify that the disk drive that you plan to
replace is down. For example:
-> STATUS $DATA00, DETAIL
Be sure that you replace this disk drive with another of the same model: 4560, 4570,
4580, or 4590. The two disk drives of a mirrored volume must be the same model
(unless you are performing an upgrade to a larger capacity).
