4. You are now ready to remove the disk drive from its slot. Continue with the
following topic Removing a 45xx Disk Drive.
Removing a 45xx Disk Drive
Before you begin to remove a 45xx disk drive from its slot, make sure you have
completed the steps in Preparing to Replace a 45xx Disk Drive on page 4-2; Then follow
this procedure (see Figure 4-2):
1. Before starting this procedure, see one of the following:
•
Preparing to Replace a Nonmirrored 45xx Disk Drive on page 4-3
•
Preparing to Replace a Mirrored 45xx Disk Drive on page 4-3
2. Locate the 45xx disk drive that you are to remove.
You can use the TSM Flash On action to physically locate a specific disk drive
(select External Disks in the Tree View). For more information about the Flash On
action, see the TSM online help.
3. If the ejector of the disk drive is locked, unlock it with the pentagonal key (turn
counterclockwise to unlock).
4. Press the ejector release button on the front of the ejector and pull the ejector open.
Pull up on the ejector to unseat the disk drive from its rear connector and wait for
the disk drive to stop spinning before you continue with this procedure.
5. Using the ejector as a handle, pull the disk drive almost all the way out of the slot.
Be prepared to support the weight of the disk drive with your other hand. See
Figure 4-2
.
6. Pull the disk drive completely out of the slot and then continue with the following
topic Installing a 45xx Disk Drive
on page 4-6.
Caution. Do not attempt to turn the key more than a quarter-turn counterclockwise. You can
break the latch mechanism if you turn the key too far. Turn the key only until the ejector is
released.
Caution. Failure to allow the disk drive to stop spinning can cause serious damage to the disk,
making it inoperable. Wait at least 60 seconds before attempting to remove the drive from the
module.
FRAGILE. To protect a disk from mechanical damage, handle the disk drive with great care
when it is out of the module. Do not let it drop, or subject it to sudden or jarring movements.
