Glossary-2
disk subsystem.
optical disk is provided by a low-intensity laser. Optical disk drives are not supported in
G-series releases. See also volume.
disk subsystem. See 45xx modular disk subsystem
.
EEPROM. See electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM)
.
electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). Memory that is used
to store firmware for controlling a hardware device.
File Utility Program (FUP). A Tandem utility used, for example, to create files, copy files,
purge files, and set the security for access to files.
firmware. A set of instructions written into the nonvolatile read-only memory (ROM) of a
host printed wiring assembly (PWA) when it is assembled and which persists in the
PWA in the absence of power. Firmware controls device “boot” and power-on
diagnostic functions. There are two types of firmware: read-only firmware, which is
burned into memory chips at the time of their manufacture, and updatable firmware,
which resides in writable memory (FLASH PROM or EEPROM).
FUP. See File Utility Program (FUP)
.
GB. See gigabyte (GB)
.
gigabyte (GB). A unit of measurement equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024 megabytes). See
also kilobyte (KB)
and megabyte (MB).
ID. See unit number
.
KB. See kilobyte (KB)
.
kilobyte (KB). A unit of measurement equal to 1024 bytes. See also gigabyte (GB)
and
megabyte (MB).
LED. See light-emitting diode (LED)
.
light-emitting diode (LED). A semiconductor device that emits light from its surface.
Indicator lights are composed of LEDs.
logic board. A printed wiring assembly (PWA) on which computer circuits (chips and
wiring) are mounted. One type of logic board is a processor (CPU) board; another type
is a 6760 adapter board.
MB. See megabyte (MB)
.
megabyte (MB). A unit of measurement equal to 1,048,576 bytes (1024 kilobytes). See also
gigabyte (GB)
and kilobyte (KB).
