45xx Modular Disk Subsystem Manual for G-Series Releases—142466
Glossary-4
SCSI terminator
SCSI terminator. A special signal connector attached to the end of a small computer system
interface (SCSI) daisy chain.
ServerNet addressable controller (SAC). A controller with a fiber-optic interface, which, in
the 6760 ServerNet device adapter, serves the same purpose as the 3128, 3129, and 3216
fiber-optic interface controllers used in the Himalaya K-series servers.
slot. A physical, labeled space for a customer-replaceable unit (CRU) or field-replaceable
unit (FRU) that is part of a module. A module contains one or more slots.
small computer system interface (SCSI). An ANSI-standard protocol for exchanging
information between computers and peripherals.
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) . An interactive interface for configuring, controlling,
and collecting information from its subsystems.
system load. To start the system; to load the operating system image from disk or tape into
the memory of a processor. A system load changes a system from an inactive state to an
active (or operational) state by loading software that establishes communication between
the operating system and configured system peripherals.
Tandem Service Management (TSM) package. A software product for Himalaya S-series
servers that provides the information needed to perform functions such as querying
resources and testing, provides notification of problems on the system, and allows local
or remote access to the system for service and maintenance. TSM performs the same
role as that of Tandem Maintenance and Diagnostic System (TMDS), Syshealth, and
Remote Maintenance Interface (RMI) on earlier Tandem systems.
TSM. See Tandem Service Management (TSM) package
.
unit number. An octal number (%0 through %7 for a 45xx disk drive) identifying a device
attached to a controller. The unit number of a 45xx disk drive is determined by the slot
that the disk drive occupies in a 45xx disk module.
volume. A logical disk drive, which can be one or two physical disk drives. In Tandem
systems, volumes have names that begin with a dollar sign ($), such as $DATA00. See
also mirrored disk or volume
