Operating a Tape Drive Without an ACL
If your 5190 and 5194 tape drive CRUs do not have an automatic cartridge loader
(ACL), you use the drive front-panel controls to operate it. The following paragraphs
describe how to operate a tape drive CRU that does not have an ACL. If the tape drive
you want to use has an ACL, see Operating a Tape Drive With an ACL on page 4-5.
This subsection includes the following topics:
Controls on the Drive Front Panel
Figure 4-8 shows the front panel of the 5190 and 5194 tape drive CRUs.
Cartridge Entry Slot
The cartridge entry slot on the drive front panel accepts cartridge tapes for loading into
the tape drive. A hinged door covers the slot to prevent dust from accumulating inside
the drive. The door lifts up and back when a cartridge is inserted or ejected.
