Bringing Up a Cartridge Tape Drive
Bringing Up a Cartridge Tape Drive
If a tape drive is down, the PUP UP command makes the drive accessible to user
processes. You bring up a tape drive during installation and any time you want to
restore the device to an operational state after placing it in the DOWN state.
You must be a super-group user to use the PUP UP command.
Example
To bring up (place back in operation) the tape drive named $TAPE1, enter the following
command:
> PUP UP $TAPE1
To check that $TAPE1 is actually up, enter the following command:
> PUP LISTDEV $TAPE1
A plus sign (+) in the STATE column indicates that the tape drive was started
dynamically using COUP.
A blank in the STATE column of the PUP LISTDEV display indicates the tape drive
is in the UP state.
For a list of all the possible device states, see the Peripheral Utility Program (PUP)
Reference Manual.
