Write Protection
Write Protection
To prevent accidental erasure of your data, each media cartridge has a write-protect
switch. When active, this switch prevents data from being written to the cartridge.
To enable write-protection, move the switch on the front of the cartridge down, so that
the small orange rectangle appears.
To disable write-protection, move the switch up so that the orange rectangle is not
visible.
When a write-protected cartridge is inserted into the drive, the yellow Write Protect
LED on the panel lights. Set as new head.
The Load/Unload menu enables the operator to specify a source and a destination for a
cartridge movement. As a result, the procedure to load is the same for unloading. To
load or unload a tape from the front panel of the module, use the Load/Unload menus as
shown in Figure 6-21
.
Note that DLT1 has a tape loaded. When this screen indicates DLT1 Idle, the drive has a
cartridge loaded and is awaiting instructions. Note also that Slot 1 of the magazine has a
cartridge present, while the remaining slots are empty.
From the Default screen, enter the Menu mode by pressing Enter. The Main menu
shown in Figure 6-22
appears.

is next to the message “Load/Unload.” Press Enter to display the first
Load/Unload submenu, shown in Figure 6-23.
Caution. For valuable data, always make sure that the cartridge is write-protected before
inserting it into the drive.

Note. If the control panel has been locked, the screen shown in Figure 6-7 appears. If the
unlock code is unknown, contact the system administrator.
