Verify That Cables Match Configuration
Database
After configuring the disk drives on the new system, it’s extremely important to verify
that the fiber-optic cables connecting the disk modules to the 6760 adapter are in their
configured locations. If your physical layout doesn’t match the configuration database,
fault tolerance could be affected. This mismatch is not immediately detectable by the
system.
Example: Mismatched Fiber-Optic Cables
This subsection provides an example of how the paths to a mirrored disk volume might
be configured properly but not be physically cabled to match the configuration. This
example results in a mismatch between the primary and backup paths and could
adversely affect fault tolerance and data integrity.
This example assumes the following configuration:
The proper cabling for this configuration is shown in Figure D-2.
Caution. Do not, under any condition, move cables from a 6760 adapter to a disk module
without first stopping all disk processes that use disks in that disk module. If the disk
processes are not stopped and the cable paths are moved to locations that do not match the
configuration database, it is possible to corrupt disk data.
