Plan the Installation
Some of the following questions might help with your planning.
General Planning Questions
•
Are you are moving 45xx disk drives from a NonStop K-series system?
If these disks contain a database that uses the system name and node name for
locating data, you may need to modify the database catalogs and file labels before
migrating the database. For more information on this subject, see Appendix D,
Migrating Data From a D-Series Release.
•
What slots are currently available for the 6760 adapter?
•
Do you plan to interleave any disks (have the two halves of a mirrored volume in
different modules or enclosures)?
The 6760 adapters in your system can accommodate interleaving. You can mirror
external disks between different modules, and you can attach these modules to
separate 6760 adapters that reside in separate enclosures. Be sure to record on
the 6760 Adapter and Modular Disk Subsystem Configuration Form the disks that
are mirrored between different modules and enclosures.
For more information about enclosure interleaving, see 6760 Adapters in
Interleaved Enclosures on page 1-13 and the NonStop S-Series Planning and
Configuration Guide.
•
Do you plan to expand the system at a later date?
Do not use slot 51 or 52 in a processor enclosure for 6760 adapters if you plan on
expanding the system in the future. These slots are normally reserved for
ServerNet expansion boards (SEBs) or modular ServerNet expansion boards
(MSEBs).
•
What 6760 adapters do you want to connect disk drive paths to?
When connecting 45xx disk drives to different 6760 adapters, the primary path and
backup path of a 45xx disk drive must be connected to 6760 adapters within the
same enclosure.
•
Which processors do you want controlling the disk drives or tape drives?
By default, the processors associated with the enclosure where a 6760 adapter is
installed will control the devices attached to that adapter. Currently, you cannot
specify processors to control the external disk drives or tape drives installed in
another group.
