Install the Adapter
Table 2-1 describes the color and function of each of the LEDs on the 6760 adapter
and 6761 F-SAC.
Installing the 6760 Adapter
Follow these steps to install a 6760 adapter in an enclosure:
1. Locate the enclosure and the slot in which the adapter is to be installed.
The group number of an enclosure is displayed on a label on the leftmost cable
support on the service side of the enclosure. To be certain of the group number,
check the group ID switches on the appearance side of the enclosure.
The adapters are normally installed in slots 53 and 54 of a processor enclosure or
slots 51 through 54 of an I/O enclosure, as shown in Figure 2-1 on page 2-3. The
adapters that communicate with the two physical disks of a mirrored volume must
be in the same enclosure, one in an even-numbered slot and the other in an
odd-numbered slot.
2. Remove the filler panel from the slot.
The filler panel maintains proper air flow and reduces electromagnetic interference
(EMI) when there is no adapter occupying the enclosure slot. Save the filler panel
for future use.
3. Remove the adapter from its ESD protective cover. The 6760 adapter with four
SACs installed weighs approximately 7.3 pounds (3.3 kilograms).
Table 2-1. LEDs on a 6760 Adapter and 6761 F-SAC
Location Color LED Name Function
6760 Green Power-on Is lit when the power is on, unless a hardware or
software fault prevents it from being lit.
6760 Amber Fault Is briefly lit when the 6760 adapter is powered on.
When the adapter has been successfully initialized and
configured, this LED becomes unlit.
If this LED remains lit, use the SCF INFO ADAPTER
command to verify that the adapter is properly
configured. If it is properly configured, use the SCF
STATUS ADAPTER command and the Compaq TSM
package to check adapter status.
The adapter may need to be replaced. For more
information about using the TSM package for testing,
see Using TSM to Check the Adapter Hardware
 on
page 3-18.
6761 Amber Carrier Is lit when the fiber-optic light carrier is detected.
ESD. Before handling the adapter or any CRU, obtain an electrostatic discharge (ESD)
protection kit. Follow the directions on the kit and the standard operating practices for
replacing a CRU to prevent damage to system components.
