Install the Adapter
4. Examine the connector on the adapter and pins on the backplane of the slot to
make sure that nothing is broken, bent, or misaligned. If you see damage, contact
your service provider before continuing with the installation.
Be aware that pins on the backplane that are poorly aligned or bent can damage
the adapter when you try to install it. Moving a damaged adapter to another slot
could also damage the pins in the other slot.
5. Put on an ESD wriststrap and attach the grounding clip to the ventilation holes at
the top of one of the processor multifunction (PMF) CRUs or I/O multifunction
(IOMF) CRUs in the enclosure (see Figure 2-5 on page 2-13).
6. With the adapter ejector in the full-open position, align the lower edge of the
adapter with the slot. Then slide the adapter all the way into the slot.
7. Press lightly on the front of the adapter (between SACs 2 and 3) so that the
connector on the adapter makes proper contact with the backplane.
8. Press the ejector to the closed position to secure the adapter in its slot.
After the adapter is installed, power is automatically supplied and a power-on self-test
(POST) is performed. When power is applied to the adapter, the green power-on LED
should be lit and the amber fault LED should flash on and then off (unless there are
hardware or software faults that prevent them from being lit).
If the amber fault LED remains lit, see Troubleshooting Adapter and Device Problems
on page 4-19 and Indicator LEDs on page 2-10.
For information on checking the LEDs in the 45xx modular disk subsystem, see the
45xx Modular Disk Subsystem Manual for G-Series Releases.
ESD. Do not attach the grounding clip of a wriststrap to doors or to any painted surface.
Caution. Do not force the adapter into the slot. If the adapter does not seat easily, the
adapter might be in the wrong slot or there might be a problem with the adapter or the
backplane.
