Summary of Procedure to Move a 6760 Adapter
•
If you are moving multiple adapters in an enclosure, move the adapters one at a
time to minimize the impact to the system, unless all paths to all devices are
expected to be down during this procedure.
•
Use SCF to delete the adapter’s old location from the configuration database.
Although SCF automatically adds the adapter information to the configuration
database when you add an adapter, that information is not automatically removed
from the database when you physically remove the adapter.
Summary of Procedure to Move a 6760 Adapter
The following summarizes the procedure for moving a 6760 adapter:
1. Determine the current location of the adapter to be moved.
2. Use the SCF STATUS ADAPTER command to determine the status of the adapter
and its devices.
3. Stop and delete the paths to the devices attached to the adapter.
4. Use the SCF DELETE ADAPTER command to remove the adapter from the
configuration database.
5. Remove the cable ties that secure the cables to a cable support.
6. Relabel both ends of the cables to match the new location.
7. Disconnect the cables from each SAC, starting with SAC 4 at the top of the
adapter.
8. Remove the adapter from the slot.
9. If the slot will remain unused, install a filler panel in the vacant slot.
10. Reinstall the adapter in its new slot.
11. Use the SCF ADD command to add configured device paths for all devices
connected to this adapter in its new location.
12. Reconnect the cables to the proper SACs, beginning with SAC 1 at the bottom of
the adapter.
13. Use the SCF START command to start each device connected to this adapter.
