Removing and Reinstalling a 6760 Adapter
Removing and Reinstalling a 6760 Adapter
Perform these steps to remove and reinstall a 6760 adapter in an enclosure:
1. Locate the enclosure and the slot containing the adapter to be removed.
The group number of an enclosure is displayed on a label on the leftmost cable
support on the service side of the enclosure. To be certain of the group number,
check the group ID switches on the appearance side of the enclosure.
2. Determine the status of this adapter and its devices with the SCF STATUS
ADAPTER command. For example:
-> STATUS ADAPTER $ZZSTO.#SNDA.GRP-1.MOD-1.SLOT-53, DETAIL
3. Use the SCF STOP command to stop all paths to the devices connected to the
affected adapter. For example:
-> STOP $DISKOO-P
-> STOP $DISKO1-P
-> :
-> :
-> STOP $DISKO6-P
-> STOP $DISKO7-P
4. Issue the SCF STATUS ADAPTER command again to verify that all the paths
using this adapter are stopped.
5. Use the SCF DELETE command to delete the paths to the devices attached to this
adapter. For example:
-> DELETE $DISKOO-P
-> DELETE $DISKO1-P
-> :
-> :
-> DELETE $DISKO6-P
-> DELETE $DISKO7-P
6. Place an antistatic table mat on a flat horizontal work surface near this enclosure.
Put on an ESD wriststrap and attach the grounding clip to the ventilation holes at
the top of one of the PMF CRUs or IOMF CRUs in the enclosure.
7. Remove the cable ties that secure the cables for this adapter to a cable support.
ESD. Before handling the adapter or any CRU, obtain an electrostatic discharge (ESD)
protection kit. Follow the directions on the kit and the standard operating practices for
replacing a CRU to prevent damage to system components.
Caution. Make sure you remove the correct adapter. Removing the wrong adapter brings
down all the devices connected to it, unless there are alternate paths available to those
devices.
ESD. Do not attach the grounding clip of a wriststrap to doors or to any painted surface.
