HaltOnError shows whether an internally detected disk-process failure
should force a halt (code %11500) in the primary processor,
backup processor, or both. Forced processor halts also halt
the respective disk process. Forced halts on one or both
processors are of special value when a service provider needs
more information at the time of a failure.
To force a halt when a failure is detected, set the HaltOnError
value to either 2 (this is the default value, which allows the
primary process to halt), 3 (allows the backup process to halt),
or 4 (allows both processes to halt). You can change this
value with the SCF ALTER DISK command.
When a halt occurs, you can perform a full processor memory
dump. This dump might be needed for analysis, but taking the
processor dump does affect system operation. For instructions
about how to perform a full processor dump, see the NonStop
S-Series Operations Guide.
Values for the HaltOnError attribute are:
1 Never halt a processor.
This value lets either the primary or backup disk processes
go into the STOPPED state, substate DOWN.
2 Never halt the backup processor (this is the default value).
This value forces the primary process to halt when it
detects an error, but lets the backup disk process go into
the STOPPED state, substate DOWN.
3 Never halt the primary disk processor.
This value lets the primary disk process go into the
STOPPED state, substate DOWN.
4 Allow both processors to halt.
This value forces either the primary or backup disk
processor to halt when detecting an error.
