Preparing to Replace a PMF CRU or IOMF CRU
Preparing to Replace a PMF CRU or IOMF CRU
The 6760 adapter depends on X-fabric or Y-fabric communication from the PMF CRUs
and IOMF CRUs in the group of enclosures where the 6760 adapter is installed. For
detailed information about how the PMF CRU and IOMF CRU can affect system
adapters, see the NonStop S-Series Planning and Configuration Guide.
The PMF CRU or IOMF CRU in slot 50 provides the X-fabric communication for the
6760 adapters installed in slots 51 and 53. The PMF CRU or IOMF CRU in slot 55
provides the Y-fabric communication for the 6760 adapters installed in slots 52 and 54.
Before You Remove a PMF CRU or IOMF CRU
If you are removing a PMF CRU or IOMF CRU, you must prepare the affected 6760
adapter.
Note that the only supported method of removing a PMF CRU or an IOMF CRU is to
use the Guided Replacement Toolkit. The Guided Replacement Toolkit will perform
Step 2, Step 3a, Step 3b, and Step 3c automatically. For more information about the
Guided Replacement Tool and how to access it, refer to the NonStop S-Series
Hardware Support Guide.
1. Determine which adapter will be affected by the CRU replacement.
2. Determine the status of the affected adapter and its devices with the SCF STATUS
ADAPTER command. For example:
-> STATUS ADAPTER $ZZSTO.#SNDA.GRP-1.MOD-1.SLOT-53, DETAIL
3. For all paths to the devices connected to the affected adapter:
Volume Switching shows how the tape process handles end-of-tape (EOT)
messages. Values can be:
EOT The user of the volume is notified of a tape
switch by file-system error 150 (EOT).
TRANSPARENT Volume switching is transparent. The user
is not notified when a volume ends.
