ADAPTERs
The ADAPTER SCF object is used in this guide to manage the CCSA itself. The SAC
and PIF objects are subordinate to the ADAPTER object. Because of this, this guide
uses examples of stopping, and starting operations on the ADAPTER and its
subordinate objects. These actions automatically affect both the SACs and PIFs.
SACs
SACs are used in this guide to check the operating state of the PICs (see Example 3-5
on page 3-10) and for determining the PIC type (see Using SCF to Determine the PIC
Type on page 1-13). Each PIC is represented by one SCF SAC object.
LIFs
The LIF object provides a logical entity with which the network-access methods
(including node processes in NonStop Intelligent Network Server (INS) software) can
interface. The INS software interfaces to the PIF object through the LIF object.
There are four LIFs and four PIFs for each PIC on the CCSA. If you have four PICs on
the CCSA, you will have 16 LIFs and 16 PIFs.
On the SS7TE, SS7TE1, and SS7TE2 PICs, each LIF object represents one DS0
channel. On the SS7TE3, each LIF object represents a communication path that can
support one or more virtual channels as configured by an INS database.
Figure 1-2 shows the relationship between the SLSA subsystem, the CCSA, and the
Intelligent Network Server (INS) software.
