Glossary
AWG. American Wiring Gauge. A U.S. measurement standard of the diameter of non-ferrous
wire, which includes copper and aluminum.
CAT 5. Specifies the transmission capacity of a wire. Category 5 UTP wires have 100Mbps
transmission capacity.
CCSA. See Common Communications ServerNet adapter.
Common Communications ServerNet adapter. The name for the 6763 adapter as it is
configured in SLSA.
customer-replaceable unit (CRU). A subset of field-replaceable units (FRUs) that can be
installed and serviced (replaced) by customers, without using special tools or special
HP training. CRUs can be replaced while the system is running.
CRU. See customer-replaceable unit (CRU).
DS0 channel. A single 64 Kbps channel, which is the building block of a T1 transmission
line. Designed for digital voice (PCM), 24 DS0 channels make up one T1 line.
E1. The European counterpart to T1, which transmits at 2.048 Mbits/sec.
EIA-232. A specification of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) that defines the
interface between data terminal equipment and data circuit-terminating equipment
using serial binary data interchange.
EIA-449. A specification of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) that defines the
interface between data terminal equipment and data circuit-terminating equipment
using serial binary data interchange.
enclosure. A single sheet-metal structure and its enclosed set of system components.
filler panel. A faceplate that is installed in place of a ServerNet adapter to ensure proper
ventilation within a system enclosure.
group. Part of the group, module, slot naming convention for uniquely identifying the logical
location of a component within a system. A group is a subset of a system and contains
one or more modules. A group does not necessarily correspond to a single physical
object, such as an enclosure. For example, an HP NonStop™ S-series processor
enclosure typically includes only one group number, but a modular cabinet can contain
several enclosures that each might belong to different groups. See also module.
groupid. The group number of a processor or I/O enclosure in a system.
HP NonStop™ Kernel operating system. The former name of the operating system for HP
NonStop systems.
