port
port. (1) A data channel that connects to other devices or computers. (2) A connector to
which a cable can be attached. (3) The entrance or physical access point (such as a
connector) to a computer, multiplexer, device, or network where signals are supplied,
extracted, or observed.
SAC. See ServerNet addressable controller (SAC).
SCP. See Service Control Point (SCP).
ServerNet addressable controller (SAC). A controller that is uniquely addressable within
one or more ServerNet address domains (SADs) through the node ID and address
fields in a request packet. A SAC is typically implemented on some portion of a
ServerNet adapter.
ServerNet fabrics. A complex set of interconnections through which there can be multiple
and (to the user) unknown paths from point to point. The term fabric refers to the X or
Y portion of the ServerNet system area network (ServerNet SAN); for example, the X
fabric.
ServerNet system area network (ServerNet SAN). A wormhole-routed, full-duplex,
packet-switched, point-to-point network designed with special attention to reducing
latency and ensuring reliability. The ServerNet SAN provides the communication path
used for interprocessor messages and for communication between processors and I/O
devices.
Service Control Point (SCP). SCP is the key element of the telecommunication network’s
Intelligent Network. The “intelligence” in intelligent network refers to the migration of
call control from switches to sophisticated computer platforms. The SCPs are these
computer platforms and are used to provide enhanced services and features within the
intelligent network.
Signaling System Number 7. The protocol used in public networks to establish
connections between switches. ISDN connections to switches that support SS7 have
access to true 64 Kbps connections between public switches. ISDN connections to
switches that do not support SS7 (such as those in the Pacific Bell region) are limited
to 56 Kbps on each B-channel since the switch signaling must be accommodated in-
band.
SAC. See ServerNet addressable controller (SAC).
sac#. The number assigned to a SAC during configuration.
slot. A physical, labeled space for a customer-replaceable unit (CRU) or field-replaceable
unit (FRU) that is part of a module. A module contains one or more slots.
SS7. See Signaling System Number 7.
