8.3 Configuring Tape Drives Online Using SCF
A tape drive can be connected either to the SCSI port of a PMF
CRU or IOMF CRU or to a 6760 adapter. This subsection
describes connecting an external tape drive to a 6760 adapter. An
example is given in the following topic, Example: Adding a Tape
Drive. For a list of limitations when configuring external tape
drives to the 6760 adapter, see Limitations on page 8-2.
For a description of how to connect a tape drive to the SCSI port of
a PMF CRU or IOMF CRU, see the Himalaya S-Series Hardware
Installation Guide.
8.3.1 Example: Adding a Tape Drive
To add a tape drive to the system configuration data base, the tape
drive need not be physically installed, but the adapter that controls
the tape drive must be installed. Use the SCF ADD TAPE
command to add a tape drive; for example:
• To add a tape drive with a SCSI ID of 5 named $TAPE0 to
SAC 1 of a 6760 adapter in group 2, module 1, slot 54, enter
the following command at an SCF prompt:
-> ADD TAPE $TAPE0, SENDTO STORAGE, LOCATION (2, 1, 54),
-> & SAC 1, DEVICEID 5
For complete details about the SCF ADD TAPE command
including command syntax, see the SCF Reference Manual for the
Storage Subsystem.
