The Peripheral Utility Program (PUP) and the Subsystem Control 
Facility (SCF) performs various maintenance operations on 
cartridge tape drives and other peripheral devices. Certain PUP 
commands, including the UP and DOWN commands, can be 
executed only by super-group users (user ID 255,n). See the 
Guardian User’s Guide for additional information about user IDs.
