9.1.3 Bringing Down a Cartridge Tape Drive
9.2.3.1 Bringing Down a Cartridge Tape Drive Using PUP
Only a super-group user to execute the DOWN command.
The PUP DOWN command makes a tape drive inaccessible to user
processes. Successful completion of the DOWN command stops
the device. Bring down a tape drive for the following needs:
Upgrade or perform maintenance on the drive
Physically remove the drive from the system (but the system is
not yet reconfigured).
Remember to stop all processes using the tape drive before bringing
down the drive. If a cartridge is loaded in the drive when the
DOWN command is issued, it is unloaded before the drive is
brought down.
Example
To bring down (remove from operation) the tape drive named
$TAPE1, enter:
