9710 (StorageTek) Addendum for NonStop Servers
Addendum to the StorageTek 9710 for the Tandem Environment
Overview and Features of the 9710 Automated Cartridge Subsystem

1.5.2 High-Capacity for the 5159 drive
When the new Compac Tape IV cartridge is used the amount of
data stored on the tape can be up to 35.0 GB non-compressed, or up
to 70.0 GB of data using the compression mode. The actual amount
of data stored in the compression mode is dependent on the data
type. The amount of data stored on the Compac Tape III tape
cartridge is 10.0 GB non-compressed capacity or 20.0 GB
compressed. The amount of data stored on the Compac Tape III
XT tape cartridge is 15.0 GB non-compressed capacity or 30.0 GB
compressed. Built-in data compression increases cartridge capacity
and drive transfer rate 2 to 2.5 times. The compression option can
be selected by using the SET MODE Commands in the Mediacom
subsystem. Refer to the Tandem Manual “5190/5194 Cartridge Tape
Subsystem”.
1.6 Compaction
1.6.1 Compaction for the 5155 drive
The compaction feature of the 5155 drive housed in the 9710
Automated Cartridge Subsystem helps to store data efficiently. A
read/write data cache of 2.0 MB allows working space for the
compaction, enabling maximum use of available tape space.
1.6.2 Compaction for the 5159 drive
The compaction feature for the 5159 drive helps to store data
efficiently. A read/write data cache of up to 8.0 MB allows working
space for the compaction, enabling maximum use of available tape
space.
