9710 (StorageTek) Addendum for NonStop Servers
Addendum to the StorageTek 9710 for the Tandem Environment
Installing and Configuring the 9710 Automated Cartridge Subsystem

3.11 Drive Placement and the SCSI ID
A single 9710 Automated Cartridge Subsystem can hold up to ten
DLT drive FRUs. Each drive FRU must have a unique SCSI ID to
identify the drive to the controller. The drive(s) arrive from the
factory with a SCSI ID of 5, but it is a good idea to check the SCSI
ID of each drive FRU whenever installing, replacing, or upgrading
drives.
The MFC supports one drive FRU per controller. This drive FRU
must have a SCSI ID of 5. One 3216 tape controller supports up to
two drive FRUs. If two drive FRUs are attached to the same 3216
controller and linked by a daisy-chain cable, the SCSI Ids must be 4
and 5. See Table 3-2.

Drive FRUs are installed in the 9710 Automated Cartridge
Subsystem and assigned SCSI Ids according to the following rule:
 • When two 5155/5159 drive FRUs are attached to a 3216 tape
controller, the 5155/5159 drive FRU on the bottom is SCSI ID
4 and the 5155/5159 drive FRU on the top is SCSI ID 5.
Figure 3-4 shows the drive placement and SCSI IDs for the
5155/5159 drive FRUs arriving from the factory configured to one
3216 controller.
