3.15 Installing the BEB (3216 Only)
Figure 3-10 shows the back-end board (BEB) enclosure. Install the
BEB enclosure if attachment of the drive to a 3216 controller is
wanted. (Drives attached to an MFC do not require a BEB.) The BEB
translates fiber-optic signals from the 3216 controller into SCSI
commands and information for the tape drive. One BEB can serve two
daisy-chained tape drives. The BEB attaches to the port that is not
terminated. Refer to Figure 3-9 for BEB placement.
CAUTION
The BEB contains Static-sensitive components. Make sure power is
removed from the drive FRU before installing the BEB. Do not
touch the BEB when the drive FRU power is on. Static charges can
damage BEB components.
To install the BEB, use the following procedure:
1. Make sure power is removed from the drive FRU.
2. Remove the filler plug, if necessary, from the fiber-optic cable
socket on the BEB enclosure.
3. Holding the BEB enclosure with two hands, align the captive wing
nut and the 50-pin connector with the screw hold and the
unterminated SCSI connector on the rear of the drive FRU. Plug
the enclosure in to the connector.
4. Push and tighten the wing nut to secure the BEB enclosure to the
rear of the drive FRU.
