9710 (StorageTek) Addendum for NonStop Servers
Addendum to the StorageTek 9710 for the Tandem Environment

uncompressed format) by two to three times. See “Controlling
Compression (5190 Tape Drive Only)”.
Writing compressed data on tape means the tape drive compresses
data whenever possible. The specific amount of data stored on tape
is not predictable, because the amount of compression varies with
the type of data being written. Because of this the amount of
compressed data stored on tape can vary significantly.
The DLT Drive FRU Tape Subsystem can store up to 40 gigabytes
(GB) on a Mark IV cartridge, 30 gigabytes (GB) on a Mark III XT
cartridge and 20 gigabytes (GB) on a Mark III cartridge.

5.4 Performance
The operational speeds of the DLT Drive FRU Tape Subsystem(s)
and the 515X DLT products are typically the same. Any
operational time difference might occur as a result of saved loading
time of the 9710 robot.
The DLTtape subsystems have the following characteristics:
• Higher reliability than conventional open-reel tape
• Compatibility with other DLTtape systems
• Data compression as a standard feature
• Robotic cartridge loader for unattended backup
• 3.0 megabytes per second unformatted burst data-transfer rate
