9710 (StorageTek) Addendum for NonStop Servers
Addendum to the StorageTek 9710 for the Tandem Environment
The DLT Drive FRU in the 9710 Automated Cartridge Subsystem
5-6
5.7 Multifunction Controller (MFC)
Unlike most I/O controllers, the MFC manages several types of
devices, including disk and tape drives, terminals, printers,
workstations, and communications lines to remote systems. The
controller consists of two boards: a logic board (LB) and a
backplane interconnect card (BIC). Access the logic board from
the front of a system or I/O cabinet. Access the BIC from the rear
of a system or I/O cabinet.
The following Tandem host systems can use the MFC as the data
path to DLT drive(s) housed in the 9710 Automated Cartridge
Subsystem:
• Himalaya K20000
• Himalaya K10000
• Himalaya K2000
• Himalaya K1000
• Himalaya K200
• Himalaya K100
• CLX 800
Notes.
• The 5155/5159 DLTtape Drive FRUs are supported by different
releases of the Guardian NonStop Kernel operating system:
1. D20.00 or later is required for the 515X tape drive with 3216
controller.
2. D20.02 or later is required for the MFC attachment.
• The MFC can operate only one tape drive (SCSI ID 5). Each
tape drive FRU in a module must be attached to a different MFC
using separate cables.
