6.3.2  Identify the Cable Connector 
Complete the information block or blocks for the cable connector. 
To connect two tape drives to the 3216 controller, the second drive 
is connected by a daisy-chain cable to the first drive. The BIC 
diagram shows this connection by including two information blocks 
(one for each drive) connected to the same connector. 
• The unit numbers for the 3216 controller are always %4, %5. 
These numbers refer to the unit number assigned to the tape 
device. They are mapped to the SCSI ID, which can be either 4 
or 5. The default SCSI ID is 5. 
• Enter the logical device name of the tape drive on the Logical 
Device Name line. 
• Enter the room number or other appropriate locator of the tape 
drive on the Physical Location of Device line. 
• Enter the cable part number on the Cable Part Number line. For 
a list of cable part numbers, see Table 6-6.  
Note: The default length for fiber-optic cables is 10 meters (33 
feet). Longer lengths of fiber-optic cable must be specified 
when ordering.
