9710 (StorageTek) Addendum for NonStop Servers
Addendum to the StorageTek 9710 for the Tandem Environment
Configuring the Compaq System for the 9710 Automated Cartridge Subsystem
6-17
The default attribute for the T16/5155/5159 DLTtape Drive FRU
is NOCOMPRESSION. The COUP attribute establishes the
default mode for the tape drive being configured. After configuring
the tape drive, this setting can be overridden, if needed, in a number
of ways. To see a description of each of the methods for enabling
or disabling compression, see “Controlling Compression (5190
Tape Drive Only)”.
6.4.4 Example 4: Starting a Device
The operating system does not recognize a new device until it has
been started. (A device cannot be started using COUP until the
device and its controller has been added as shown in Examples 1, 2,
and 3.)
In this example, the COUP START command starts an I/O process
for the tape drive $TAPE1. Messages indicate that the tape drive
has been started.
 11) START $TAPE1
IOP for device $TAPE1 successfully started in CPU 0.
IOP for device $TAPE1 successfully started in CPU 1.
Device $TAPE1 has been successfully started.
6.4.5 Example 5: Removing a Device from the System
Use COUP to remove a T16/5155/5159 DLTtape Drive FRU
from the system. The STOP command stops the I/O process for
that drive. Any processes communicating with that drive must also
be stopped. (After the STOP command stops the I/O process for
that drive, a PUP LISTDEV command on the device will show that
it is unknown to the system.) The STOP command also marks the
drive as stopped in the configuration file; the drive will not start
after the next processor reloads.
