Figure 1-1 is an example of a Fibre Channel converter connecting a tape drive to a NonStop S-series server. Figure 1-1.
Overview of the Fibre Channel Converter Supported Storage Devices The Fibre Channel converter has an integrated power supply. The Fibre Channel converter connects a supported storage device to a supported SCSI port on a NonStop S-series server.
Overview of the Fibre Channel Converter Data Connections Proper Fibre Channel components must be used (for example, GBICs and multimode fiber optic cables). A GBIC connector must be used. The GBIC connector is available in Short Wave Optical. Refer to Appendix A, Multimode Fiber Optic Cables for more information on the fiber cables.
Overview of the Fibre Channel Converter SCSI ID SCSI Port The Fibre Channel converter is a high-voltage differential (HVD) model that supports ultrawide data transfer at up to 40 MB/sec per channel and has internal SCSI termination. The SCSI channel on the Fibre Channel converter connects to a supported SCSI port on the NonStop S-series server. Table 1-1.

SCF Configuration Configuring the Storage Devices Configuring the Storage Devices A tape drive connected to a Fibre Channel converter must be configured as ID 5. Use DEVICE ID attribute 5 when adding the tape drive to the system configuration database. If you have a tape library that requires you to use any SCSI ID other than 5, contact your service provider. For more information about configuring storage devices refer to the SCF Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem.

Note. The Fibre Channel converter is shipped with a black multimode GBIC. Do not use a blue single-mode GBIC, such as those on a SCSI extender, to connect to a 9840 Fibre Channel tape drive.
