5 Modifier Profiles
This subsection describes all modifiers contained in the AM3270/TR3271 profiles. For
detailed information about using SCF to alter the default values for the duration of a
current session, refer to Section 4, SCF Interface to AM3270 and TR3271. For detailed
information on permanently altering the modifier default values contained in the profiles
or creating a new profile, refer to the WAN Subsystem Configuration and Management
Manual.
The modifiers are listed in alphabetical order The heading shows if the modifier applies
to AM, TR, or both access methods. The following attributes are listed for each
modifier:

Application—the device affected by the modifier. Typically, the modifier modifies
the actions of either the SWAN concentrator or the cluster controller (3x74).
For TR3271, however, the TR3271 line handler allows the NonStop S-series server
or Integrity NonStop NS-series server to participate as a tributary station in a multi-
point line. This condition occurs because all modifiers are of local significance and
affect only TR3271 operation, therefore the SWAN concentrator is noted as the
application affected by the modifier.
•
Default—the expected value, the setting when the system is first installed. Do not
change this value without good reason.
•
Units—the incremental units used to create the value and range of values.
•
Range—the acceptable high and low values.
•
SCF Equivalent—the SCF attribute name used to make temporary changes
through SCF. In some cases, the SCF names will differ from the modifier name
used in the profiles. However, when there is no SCF equivalent, you cannot make
temporary changes.
CLBFRAMESIZE — AM and TR
This modifier defines the size of the dedicated Communications Line Interface
Processor (CLIP) buffer, which must be the size of a physical read operation from the
IOP.
The CLIP is the hardware and software that together store and execute the download
program. The default value allows optimum resource use for most systems. A smaller
value may be insufficient; a larger value uses an unnecessarily large amount of the
IOP memory for each frame.
