Object Hierarchy
Object Hierarchy
The hierarchy of the object type is:
 1. PROCESS. An AM3270 or TR3271 process
 2. LINE. A communication line
 3. SU. A subdevice
A PROCESS controls a LINE. Under any LINE, there are SUs associated with it.
Subdevice Access
For AM3270, each subdevice corresponds to a physical device (terminal or printer).
For TR3271, each subdevice corresponds to a tributary station configured in the
TR3271 process. For both AM and TR, PTP subdevices correspond to PTP
connections between the AM subdevice and a remote TR subdevice over Expand.
Each subdevice has a unique address of format (X,Y). For AM3270, X represents the
address of the 3x74 cluster controller in the multipoint line. For TR3271, X represents
the address of a tributary controller emulated by TR3271; Y represents the address of
a subdevice within the tributary controller.
An individual subdevice is accessible even though the subdevice is a component of a
polled group of physical devices.
Application processes issue standard file-system requests, such as OPEN, READ, or
WRITE, to the subdevices. AM3270 processes these requests and performs the
requested actions. Specifically, the application uses the OPEN procedure to access the
terminal, then uses READ and WRITE requests to AM3270 to perform polls and select
operations on the line.
Profile Object Files
The PROFILE object in the WAN subsystem specifies the device modifiers to be used
on a particular line. Profiles contain modifiers and default modifier values for the
AM3270/TR3271 devices. You create a profile from an object file provided by HP or
from a previously created profile. This subsection introduces the object files provided
by HP for AM3270/TR3271.
You can use SCF commands from the WAN subsystem to list profiles and to view the
modifiers contained in a profile. The INFO PROFILE command lists the devices that
are using a specified profile along with modifiers and modifier values contained in the
profile. The INFO DEVICE command can display the profile used for the specified
device. For more information about these SCF commands, refer to the WAN
Subsystem Configuration and Management Manual.
Table 3-1
defines the object files that are provided by HP for AM3270/TR3271. These
object files are installed in $SYSTEM.SYSnn.
