Overview of the ATM ServerNet
Adapter (ATM3SA)
The ATM ServerNet adapter (ATM3SA) is one of several supported ServerNet
adapters available for use on a NonStop S-series server. The ATM3SA adapter
provides a high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) connection allowing
NonStop S-series servers to be directly attached to an ATM network.
The ATM3SA adapter operates at 155 Mbps and provides a full-duplex ATM OC-3 port
for connection to the UNI (User-Network Interface). The UNI is an interface point
between ATM end users and a private ATM switch, or between a private ATM switch
and the public-carrier ATM network. The UNI interface is defined by standards adopted
by the ATM Forum. Refer to the ATM Forum specifications for more information about
ATM industry standards.
For more information about configuring and managing the ATM subsystem, refer to the
ATM Configuration and Management Manual.
ATM Subsystem Features
The ATM subsystem:
Provides an architecture that supports parallel ATM I/O in a system based on the
ServerNet architecture.
Allows NonStop S-series servers to communicate across a ServerNet system area
network (ServerNet SAN) and access ATM devices.
Supports ATM connectivity for any NonStop S-series server running the G06.00
RVU and all subsequent RVUs.
Supports multiple communications protocols including TCP/IP, Expand/IP and
Expand native mode.
Is fully fault-tolerant with full-duplex, two-channel (left and right) connections for
each adapter.
Provides high-speed data transmission over each fiber at 155 Mbps.
Provides similar performance characteristics to other ATM service providers.
Allows distances up to 2 kilometers between systems.
Requires only one double-high slot for each of the required adapters.
