ATM3SA Features
ATM3SA Features
The ATM3SA adapter provides ATM connectivity on NonStop S-series servers, with
these features:
•
Persistence: Each process has primary and backup ASM processes.
•
High bandwidth: Maximum 155 megabits per second data rate between systems
(over fiber-optic links).
•
Scalability: Supports multiple processors to same adapter.
•
Manageability: Supported by the HP Open System Management (OSM) software
or the Compaq TSM software to facilitate diagnostics and maintenance. OSM is
the system management tool of choice for NonStop S-series servers. For more
information, see the OSM Migration Guide.
•
Configuration: Two ATM3SA adapters for each processor can be installed on a
NonStop S-series server. Each adapter supports up to 512 permanent virtual
circuits and up to 128 switched virtual circuits.
•
Physical interface: A multimode SC fiber connector (customer supplied) that
accepts SONET/SDN framing for the ATM Adaptation Layer 5 Segmentation and
Assembly (AAL5 SAR) function.
•
Geographical separation: Up to 2-kilometer separation between systems.
•
Security: Signals on fiber-optic links cannot be as easily tapped as signals on
copper or wireless links.
•
Standards: Based on ATM industry standard specifications.
Communications Lines Using the ATM3SA Adapter
The Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) subsystem provides access to the ATM
ServerNet adapter (ATM3SA). The following HP subsystems and utilities may be
configured to access an ATM3SA adapter through the ATM subsystem:
•
The TCP/IP subsystem, which can interface to the ATM subsystem to provide
connectivity to TCP/IP networks. The following HP subsystems and utilities can
interface to the TCP/IP subsystem to use an ATM3SA adapter:
•
The Expand subsystem, which can be configured to establish Expand-over-IP
connections through the TCP/IP subsystem.
•
Telserv and the File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which use the socket library to
establish connections through the TCP/IP subsystem.
•
Other HP subsystems that can be configured to establish connections through
the TCP/IP subsystem.
•
The Expand subsystem, which can interface to the ATM subsystem to provide
Expand-over-ATM connections.
