Overview
The Tandem application environment enables you to develop and run high-performance,
high-volume, and highly available online transaction-processing (OLTP) applications.
Making changes in your application environment can involve adding requester and
server programs to handle new types of transactions, reorganizing a database to
accommodate business growth, or simply reconfiguring certain configuration attributes.
This section provides information to help you reduce or eliminate planned outages by:
Identifying the changes you can perform online to three core service products that
lie between the operating system platform and the transaction-processing
applications:
NonStop Transaction Services/MP (NonStop TS/MP)
NonStop SQL/MP
NonStop Transaction Manager/MP (NonStop TM/MP)
Identifying the changes you can perform online to the following transaction-
processing monitoring environments supported by Tandem:
The NonStop TUXEDO environment
The Pathway environment
Telling you which manuals contain application subsystem change information.
Online change is any change that can be performed while your NonStop system is still
operational. In some situations, online changes may temporarily affect application
availability.
Overview of the Tandem Application Environment
The Tandem application environment enables users to develop and run high-
performance, high-volume, OLTP applications on NonStop systems. The system
software that makes up the Tandem application environment falls into two broad
categories, as shown in Figure 4-1 on page 4-3:
A set of core services that provide the underlying infrastructure for your transaction-
processing applications
A choice of transaction-processing application environments
Transaction-Processing Core Services
