The Pathway Environment
The NonStop TM/MP core service must be started, monitored, and maintained as a
separate subsystem. Usually, the Tandem system administrator performs these tasks.
(Each NonStop system includes one—and only one—instance of the NonStop TM/MP
product, which is used by many subsystems.)
The Pathway Environment
The Pathway environment provides a client/server model for both terminal-based and
workstation-based applications and the benefits of the Tandem fundamentals.
Transactions can be initiated by workstations, terminals, intelligent devices, and general
devices.
The Pathway environment always includes the NonStop TS/MP core service product
(the PATHMON process, the LINKMON process, and the PATHCOM interface).
Depending on your configuration, a Pathway environment might also include the
following components, as shown in Figure 4-6:
•
The Remote Server Call (RSC) product for workstation-based applications
•
The Pathsend API for process-to-process communication
•
The GDSX facility for general devices
•
The Pathway/Transaction Services (Pathway/TS) product for terminal-based
applications
