Tandem Performance Data Collector (TPDC)
Tandem Performance Data Collector (TPDC)
The Tandem Performance Data Collector is a Tandem host-based performance data
collection and relationship product. TPDC significantly reduces the expertise and
manpower required to collect performance data. To evaluate performance measurement
data correctly, it is necessary to know the configuration of software and hardware
components on the system, and to make sure that no dynamic changes are taking place
during the period being measured. To acquire this information on a Tandem system
requires the use of several tools:
•
Disk Space Analysis Program (DSAP)
•
File Utility Program (FUP)
•
Measure
•
PEEK
By coordinating the execution of these components, you can get information about the
running environment and the entities in that period of interest.
How TPDC Works
TPDC performs the following functions throughout the performance data collection
cycle:
•
Determines the hardware and software configurations of the system to be measured.
•
Organizes measurements based on the system’s hardware and software
configuration.
•
Starts the measurements.
•
Calculates an efficient sampling interval for devices and processors.
•
Samples and records information on Tandem NonStop Kernel entities
•
Retrieves data from Measure measurements.
•
Integrates data from measurements taken by Measure.
•
Creates a consolidated data file for subsequent analysis and reporting.
Using TPDC to Collect I/O Device Information
The Device Distribution Report summarizes the devices on the system to provide a high-
level view of how the system is configured with respect to I/O devices. The Device
Distribution Report displays the count of each device type on the system being measured
and gives a brief description of the device type. In the following example, there are 26
type-3 disk devices on this system.
