How It Works
Tandem 6530 terminals, 6530-compatible terminals, VT-series terminals, workstation-
based 6530 terminal emulators, and workstation-based VT-series terminal emulators can
be connected to the AWAN access server directly through RS-232 or Current Loop ports
or remotely through modems.
For each asynchronous session, a TN6530 session is established with a Telserv process
running on the Himalaya NonStop server. For VT-series terminals and workstation-
based VT-series terminal emulators, the AWAN access server can be configured to
provide VT-to-6530 protocol conversion. The 6530 emulation is executed entirely on the
AWAN access server.
The AWAN access server supports serial printers using the FASTPTCP LAN print
spooler software on the Himalaya NonStop server. Printers can be directly connected to
the AWAN access server using RS-232 or Current Loop ports.
Note. VT-to-6530 protocol conversion is supported on 3883-8R, 3883-16R, 3884R, and 3885R
AWAN access server models only. LAN-attached workstation-based VT-series terminal
emulators and VT-series terminals attached to a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) terminal server can access 6530 applications using the 6530 gateway
feature. The 6530 gateway feature is described in Section 10, Configuring the 6530 Gateway
Feature.
Note. The AWAN access server supports Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) traffic as a router
only; it does not support asynchronous terminal or asynchronous printer sessions using IPX as
either a client or a server. All asynchronous ports connect to network nodes using TCP/IP
Telnet sessions.
