Configuring Serial Printer Connections
Step 3: Setting Up the Telnet Service
To set up a Telnet service for the port where the serial printer is connected, choose
Telnet... from the Server Characteristics and Properties Menu. The Telnet dialog box is
displayed as shown in Figure 8-8.
Step Action Comments
1. Make sure the Username, Preferred
Service (Telnet Host), and Node
(Telserv Service/Window) text boxes
are blank.
These text boxes are not used for serial
printer connections and should be left blank
to avoid confusion.
2. Choose Hardcopy from the Term Type
drop-down list box.
Note: See the discussion of the Term Type
settings before this dialog box for more
information.
6. Choose Remote from the Access
drop-down list box.
The Remote option allows sessions to be
started by the serial printer only.
Note: The Dynamic option is not
recommended because it might allow stray
data or noise from the asynchronous lines to
prevent FASTPTCP access to the printer.
7. Leave the Default Protocol drop-down
list box at its default setting (Telnet).
This drop-down list box is not used when
Access is set to Remote.
8. Make sure that the Signal Check
check box is disabled.
This check box is not used for serial printer
connections.
9. Make sure that the Autoconnect check
box is disabled.
This check box is not used when Access is
set to Remote.
10. Click OK.
