Configuring a Workstation
Configuring a Workstation
If you configured an asynchronous connection for a Macintosh, DOS, or Windows
computer running a 6530 terminal emulator or VT-series terminal emulator, you must
install and configure the appropriate software to provide access to 6530 or OSS
applications on the Himalaya NonStop server.
This subsection describes workstation software requirements and explains how to
prepare workstation users to connect to a Himalaya NonStop server asynchronously
through an AWAN access server.
Required Software
You must install a 6530 terminal emulator or VT-series terminal emulator on the
workstation. The following Tandem 6530 emulators are available:
•
MacUWS for the Macintosh
•
PC6530 for DOS-based PCs
•
OutsideView for OS/2 and Windows-based PCs
AWAN access server models 3883-8R, 3883-16R, 3884-R, and 3885R perform
VT-to-6530 protocol conversion for VT-series terminal emulators. For information about
using a VT-series terminal or terminal emulator to access 6530 applications, refer to
Preparing Terminal and Workstation Users
on page 10-4.
Preparing Workstation Users
To connect to a Himalaya NonStop server using a terminal emulator, the workstation
user must be provided with the following information:
•
For dial-in users: The telephone number of the modem on the AWAN access
server.
•
For TACL users: The user name and password to use when logging onto the
Himalaya NonStop server.
Note. 6530 emulators are also available from third-party vendors. In general, any
6530-compatible asynchronous device will operate with an AWAN access server. Check with
your third-party vendor for more information.
Note. Pathway and other applications have their own unique requirements.
