Additional Software
One or more of the following products are required depending on the type of remote
access connections you want to configure:
If the workstation user will be communicating with a Pathway server on a Himalaya
NonStop server, you must install the Remote Server Call (RSC) client software.
RSC is described in the Remote Server Call (RSC) Installation and Management
Guide.
If the workstation user will access a NonStop SQL/MP database on a Himalaya
NonStop server, the NonStop ODBC Server client software must be installed.
NonStop ODBC Server is described in the NonStop ODBC Server Installation and
Management Manual.
If the workstation user wants to access the Internet through a Himalaya NonStop
server, a Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator
must be installed.
If the workstation user will access 6530 applications on a Himalaya NonStop server,
a 6530 terminal emulator or VT-series terminal emulator must be installed. The
following Tandem 6530 emulator programs are available:
MacUWS for the Macintosh
PC6530 for DOS-based PCs
Outside View for OS/2 and Windows-based PCs
Preparing Workstation Users
This subsection describes the information you must provide to IP network, Novell
NetWare network, AppleTalk network, and NASI remote-control users.
IP Network Users
For IP network users, you must provide the telephone number for the AWAN access
server. Users must configure their TCP/IP stack to dial and log into the AWAN access
server. You might also need to provide the following information:
The IP address to configure in the client software.
The protocol to use when connecting (SLIP, CSLIP, PPP, or PPP with CHAP or
PAP).
The user name and password to enter when connecting to the AWAN access server.
Refer to the documentation provided with your TCP/IP software package for installation
and configuration instructions.
Note. 6530 emulators are also available from third-party vendors. In general, any
6530-compatible asynchronous device will operate with an AWAN access server. Check with
your third-party vendor for more information.
