How It Works
How It Works
A VT-series terminal attached to TCP/IP terminal server or a LAN-attached workstation-
based VT-series terminal emulator uses Telnet to connect to the AWAN access server,
which acts as a 6530 gateway to the Tandem NonStop server-based 6530 application.
The AWAN access server provides 6530 emulation by binding a Telnet session to a
TN6530 session. Tandem 6530 emulation is executed entirely on the AWAN access
server.
Summary of Configuration Tasks
Configuring the 6530 gateway feature involves the following tasks. Table 10-1 describes
each task in the order in which it should be performed.
Finally, you should save and store your configuration changes as described in Saving a
Configuration File on page 5-27 and Storing a Configuration File on page 5-29.
Configuring the Tandem NonStop Server
Before you can configure the 6530 gateway feature on your AWAN access server, you
must configure the software on the Tandem NonStop server with which the VT-series
terminal or workstation-based VT-series terminal emulator will communicate.
The following software is required on the Tandem NonStop server:
•
Tandem TELNET Server (Telserv) subsystem
•
Tandem NonStop TCP/IP subsystem
•
ServerNet LAN Systems Access (SLSA) subsystem (for Himalaya S-series servers)
or the Tandem LAN Access Method (TLAM) subsystem (for Himalaya K-series
servers)
A Telserv process must be configured and started on the Tandem NonStop server before
it can communicate with the VT-series terminal or workstation-based VT-series terminal
emulator.
Table 10-1. 6530 Gateway Feature Configuration Tasks
Task Description Purpose
1. Configuring the Tandem NonStop
Server
To configure the software needed on the
Tandem NonStop server for 6530 gateway
communications.
2. Configuring Port L0 on the
AWAN Access Server
To configure the 6530 gateway ports on the
AWAN access server.
3. Preparing Terminal and
Workstation Users
To prepare the information needed by VT-
series terminal and workstation-based VT100
emulator users.
