Preparing Terminal and Workstation Users
This subsection provides information about using VT-series terminal emulators, VT
signal window commands, and function-key mapping.
Using VT Emulators
When using a VT-series terminal or VT-series terminal emulator without a keypad for
function keys, use the signal window for function key entry. If the emulator has a macro
capability, you can configure single keystroke macros to enter the key sequences to open
a signal window and specify the function key followed by the Enter key.
Host-Issued VT Signal Window Commands
A host application or a TACL macro can issue signal window commands, including the
KEYnnn commands which redefine the single keystroke invocations. To do this, the host
application must send the following exact sequence of characters:
This sequence of characters is followed by the signal window command and is
terminated by the first control character or by the 64-character maximum of the line 25
definition command (ESC o).
If a signal window happens to be open when the host sends this sequence, any keyboard
signal input is discarded and the window is closed at the terminal. The host signal
window command is processed and no indication or status is returned to the Tandem
application.
